WWE Armageddon: A Geeks Predictions
December 14th 2008 22:47
Well, we have come to the end of the WWE Pay-Per-View calender. The month of December typically features the cryptically named "Armageddon" event, which signifies the final stop before the road to Wrestlemania. WWE is facing a great deal of pressure creatively due to the overwhelming storyline success that took place with "Survivor Series." The card is decent, with some of their best performers being featured, but this event will be lacking an intangible quality I predict.
Anyway...lets get on with the match previews and predictions.
Santas Helper Match: Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, and Maria vs Natalya, Jillian Hall, Maryse, and Victoria:
Seeing as that there are plans to turn Michelle McCool into a full fledged heel in the near future, I predict that McCool and Maria have an in-match rift that leads to their teams defeat. Truth be told, there is little point to this match other than to see beautiful women barely wearing anything...and there is nothing wrong with that.
Belfast Brawl: Finlay vs Mark Henry:
I think that Mark Henry gets a bad rap. I know that he is not particularly skilled in the ring, but he gives hit his all and has done his best with everything thrown at him. Finlay has been criticized by wrestling cynics as having gone soft and played second fiddle to a little person. I think that this match will last no longer than 10-12 minutes and will be incredibly high impact. I see Mark Henry getting a brutal win with Hornswoggle inadvertently causing the loss.
Non-Title Singles Match: ECW Champion Matt Hardy vs Valdimir Kozlov:
This will be little more than a glorified squash match (The fact that this is a non-title match is a dead giveaway). This is WWE's way of paying back Kozlov for making him take a backseat at Survivor Series. I think it is a shame that Matt Hardy is the sacrificial lamb, seeing as how he has done a lot of great work on ECW. Kozlov gets the win here and becomes an eliminating force at the Royal Rumble.
IC Title Tournament Final: C.M. Punk vs Rey Mysterio:
This match has a lot of potential to be a show stealer. I like the concept of the IC title tournament, as it has given some much needed credibility to a suffering championship. Having Punk drop the tag titles at a house show the night before the event might signal that he will win this match and eventually become IC champ. Either one of these men would be a great and more credible IC champion, but I think that Punk gets the nod in this one.
Randy Orton vs Batista: Randy Orton is on an incredible roll. The fans are behind him and his in-ring abilities are just so vastly superior to Batista that it is not even funny. Orton needs to be back in the title picture, I predict that he gets an unclean win and moves on to a potential title match at the Royal Rumble.
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship: Edge (c) vs HHH vs Jeff Hardy:
The return of Edge at the Survivor Series was one of the highlights of the entire program. It was well executed with the Jeff Hardy work and added fuel to a storyline fire. The WWE is still hesitant to put the title on Hardy, and it would make little sense to put the strap back on HHH even though I wouldn't rule that out. I fully expect Edge to slither his way to a win and retaining the title.
World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena (c) vs Chris Jericho:
I think that the smart marks were not pleased with the WWE putting the title on Cena on his first night back at Survivor Series. Chris Jericho is a well respected worker and was a great heel champion. I think that there is a possibility of Jericho walking out with the title, but I think that it is too soon to take it off of Cena. This could lead to a possible Cena/Orton title match at the Royal Rumble. I predict that Cena gets the win.
There you have it. Armageddon could surprise all of us, but at this point I view this as an uneventful pay-per-view event. Either way, I fully expect Armageddon to at least be an entertaining way to spend a cold December night.
