WWE Breaking Point: A Geek's Predictions
September 13th 2009 16:51
WWE has decided recently to take slots normally reserved for bland, middle of the road pay-per-view events and create shows with a particular theme. First on the docket is "Breaking Point," in which all of the main event matches will be conducted under submission rules...the operative phrasing being that it will force wrestlers to tap out and reach their "Breaking Point" by saying "I Quit."
Acknowledging the potential tedium that could result...WWE has limited these rules to only apply to the Main Events on the card...meaning that only 3 matches will be conducted under submission rules.
The card seems quite solid as a whole...with some "Summerslam" retreads as well as some new feuds and rivalries.
Here are my predictions:
United States Championship
Kofi Kingston (c) vs The Miz:
Kofi Kingston has done a tremendous job as US Champion, but what he is missing is a true foe to create a truly memorable feud. The Miz has gotten a big push throughout the summer and he could solidify his new status with a title win.
I predict this happens as the Miz gets an unclean win
Singapore Cane Match
Kane vs The Great Khali
I have no idea why this feud is continuing...Kane is clearly suffering in this storyline. The real question is whether or not this match will last longer than 3 minutes. I predict that Khali gets the win and Kane can move on to better things.
Tag Team Championship
Chris Jericho and Big Show (c) vs MVP vs Mark Henry:
I love that the Tag Team division is getting real play on PPV events again. Jericho and Big Show have done wonders with that division and MVP and Mark Henry are playing worthy foils. I believe that Jericho and Big Show get the win, but this rivalry may actually continue beyond this match...which would be terrific for the division.
Submissions Count Anywhere in the Building
DX vs Legacy:
DX does seem to have lost a step in both in ring abilities and on the microphone. However they are the most entertaining faces in the business. Legacy has really stepped up their game as well and I believe that in the surprise of the night, Legacy finds a way to make DX submit.
ECW Championship
Christian (c) vs William Regal:
ECW has created a bizarre stable with William Regal leading Vladamir Kozlov (AKA Ludvig Borga) and Ezekiel Jackson (AKA Ahmed Johnson) against Christian. I think now is Regal's time and he captures the ECW title from Christian in what will be a solid match from two solid veterans
Submission match for the World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk (c) vs Undertaker:
Now comes the real test for CM Punk. When he was wrestling Jeff Hardy, he was wrestling someone of a high flying persuasion that could mesh well with his style. Now he enters a program with a striker and mat power technician who should be able to physically dominate him. I predict that Taker gets the win and wins the World Heavyweight Championship only because it is a submission only match...but this program will continue for months.
I Quit Match for WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs John Cena:
The biggest hope for WWE is that this match doesn't end in the same disastrous fashion that their Summerslam contest concluded. This match will go all over the place and it is not in Cena's character to quit. I predict that Cena gets the win and this rivalry will conclude next month in Hell in a Cell.
Those are my predictions, whether or not I am correct, I will be sitting in my apt with some buddies, watching Breaking Point with the same curiosity as the rest.
Enjoy the Show!!!
