WWE Extreme Rules: A Geeks Predictions
June 7th 2009 21:01
"Judgment Day" has come and gone...but the storylines continue. Enter "Extreme Rules," the one event where the WWE takes all of the existing storylines from "Judgment Day" and puts all of the competitors in matches where there is an added gimmick or stipulation. The good news is that "Judgment Day" was not a disappointing event, which should make "Extreme Rules" a more than fun event.
Well...on to the predictions:
Fatal Four Way Match for US Title
Kofi Kingston (c) vs MVP vs William Regal vs Matt Hardy:
It is sort of sad and amusing when one addresses Matt Hardy. Here he is, in a match for the US title on a Pay Per View event and all anyone can talk about is his brother and his World Title Match. Also, MVP and Kofi Kingston put on an amazing match on Raw last Monday, with Kingston winning the coveted title. Add Regal to the mix and you finally have the US title defended on a PPV event with some credibility.
I expect Kofi to retain with a possible win from MVP.
Hog Pen Match for the Title of "Miss Wrestlemania"
Vickie Guererro (c) vs "Santina" Marella:
This match exists for entertainment and comedic purposes. Hopefully it won't last long. I say Vickie gets the win...but still ends up covered in hog slop.
Samoan Strap Match
CM Punk vs Umaga:
It was entertaining to hear Umaga cut a promo in English introducing this match. I also dig the fact that it is a traditional strap match where the only way to win is to touch all four corners. I still don't understand the need of WWE to put CM Punk on every single card...however this match will be entertaining and CM Punk gets the win.
Triple Threat Hardcore Match for the ECW Championship
Christian (c) vs Jack Swagger vs Tommy Dreamer:
This is being billed as "Tommy Dreamer's last chance," meaning if he loses he will retire from ECW. This is setting up a potentially beautiful moment with Dreamer realizing his one last moment. I have been tremendously happy with what ECW puts forward on their program week after week with the gallant champion Christian. his cocky rival Jack Swagger, and the grizzled vet yearning for one last chance Tommy Dreamer.
My heart tells me Dreamer, but my head tells me Christian. I predict that Christian gets the win, but I'll be pulling for Tommy D.
Submission Match
John Cena vs Big Show:
This storyline could have been much worse. It was some creative thinking to put these two physical brawlers in a match where you must rely on technical prowess. The catch is that Big Show is too large for Cena to lock him in the STF. I fully expect Cena to find a way and get another win over his 7' 500 lb foe.
No Holds Barred Match for the Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs Chris Jericho:
At "Judgment Day," these two put on a bonafide match of the year candidate, with a Rey Mysterio getting an exciting win. This time, it will be a bit more violent...but just as creative...and just as exciting as their "Judgment Day" encounter. I picked Jericho to get a win last time...so this time I am going with Mr. 619, Rey Mysterio to get the win and a successful title defense.
Cage Match for WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs Batista:
The match these two put on at "Judgment Day" was better than expected...but still just ok. Now there are put in a match where Batista can use simply blunt force trauma to attack his opponent. I am going out on a limb...but I say that despite his hot streak over the past few months...Orton loses his championship as Batista gets the win.
Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c) vs Jeff Hardy:
This contest could rival Jericho/Mysterio for the best match of the night. The rumor is that Jeff Hardy has secretly signed a contract extension, which could result in him winning the championship. Edge however always seems to find a way to emerge victorious in these types of matches. I think that this match will feature some of the most exciting spots in recent memory. Their "Judgment Day" encounter was a dud so there is only room for improvement. I predict that when all is said and done...Edge emerges still the champion.
Those are my predictions for "Extreme Rules," I will be sitting in my apartment complete with a bowl of popcorn and some pizza and enjoying the extreme action.
Enjoy the Show!!!
