WWE No Mercy 2008: A geek's predictions
October 4th 2008 23:02
Yes, I know that pro wrestling doesn't depict traditional competitions, however they are contests in a more vauge sense. Company pole positions can be heightened or lowered as well as increased or decreased fan approval.
So without further ado, here are my predictions for WWE No Mercy 2008:
WWE Women's Title:
Beth Phoenix (c) vs Candace Michelle: Candace has enjoyed a nice push since her return from her second collarbone injury, but putting the title back on her right away seems unlikely, so Phoenix gets the win.
Mask match: If Rey Mysterio loses he must unmask:
Rey Mysterio vs Kane: Any fan with half a brain can figure out that if Rey Mysterio stood a chance at winning this match, then the stipulation wouldn't exist. Kane gets the win, with a "dramatic" unmasking.
Grudge Match:
Undertaker vs Big Show: Nobody really cares who wins or loses this match. That fact coupled with the alleged bad condition of the Undertaker's knees, allows me to believe that this match will end in a brawling no contest.
# 1 Contenders Match:
Batista vs JBL: No one expects a Flair/Steamboat 45 minute classic here. This is a battle of the two men that the company wants to keep in the title picture...but never actually put the title on. After 10-12 minutes of these two sucking wind, Batista will hit the bomb and get the win.
ECW Championship:
Matt Hardy (c) vs Mark Henry: Its interesting that this may be the most interesting fued that no one knows about. Matt Hardy doesn't have the charisma, look, or talent that his brother Jeff does...but he is a hard worker who brings credibility to a very ignored title. Mark Henry, for all of his athletic shortcomings did a respectable job as ECW champion. Sorry about my ranting, I predict that Henry dominates the match...but Hardy gets the pinfall victory.
WWE Championship:
HHH (c) vs Jeff Hardy: This match posed the most unpredictability...about four weeks ago. Now with Jeff Hardy's recent alcohol related incidents, beating one of the greatest wrestlers of all time for his first world title seems very unlikely. I could be wrong, but my gut is telling me the HHH walks out with the strap.
Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship:
Chris Jericho (c) vs Shawn Michaels: I could not be more excited for this match. Not only do you have one of the most compelling storylines in years involving the two best in the business today. You also have the world title in the picture in the most exciting match type in wrestling history. This has the potential to be one of the ten greatest matches of all time. How will it play out...I feel that it is too soon to take the title off of Chris Jericho since he has only had it for a month. I predict that Chris Jericho gets an unclean victory in the showstopper of the night, year, decade.
There you have it wrestling fans, my predictions for No Mercy 2008. If you disagree or are simply feeling argumentative feel free to drop me a line.
Until next time...take care and enjoy No Mercy,
