WWE Survivor Series 2008: A Geek's Predictions
November 23rd 2008 23:05
Well its that time of year. Thanksgiving time is always associated with four things:Turkey, Family, Football and Survivor Series. This year is the 22nd installment of WWE's November classic. This year shall not disappoint...it may not match up with previous years, but it should still be one hell of a show. There are two major stories heading into the event. The first is the return of John Cena in a world title match against Chris Jericho. The second is the report that Jeff Hardy was found unconscious in a stairwell in a Boston hotel. All updates have led me to believe that the Hardy story is little more than a "work," which is a wrestling term for a seemingly real life occurrence that is actually part of the story. I fully expect Hardy to compete tonight.
Well as I have done in the past...I will offer my thoughts on this event as well as predictions for all of the matches...including my predictions for the survivors in the traditional Survivor Series Matches.
So, lets get right down to it:
Traditional Survivor Series Match: Raw Divas (Womens Champion Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Candice Michelle, Kelly Kelly, and Jillian Hall) vs Smackdown Divas (Divas Champion Michelle McCool, Natalya, Maria, Maryse, and Victoria):
I fully predict that this match will be full of conflict with the champions having to deal with the various contenders that are featured in the match and on their respective teams. I expect the Smackdown Divas to win the match with McCool and Maria being the sole survivors.
Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team Orton (Randy Orton, IC Champion William Regal, Cody Rhodes, Manu, and Mark Henry) vs Team Batista (Batista, ECW Champion Matt Hardy, Tag Team Champions CM Punk and Kofi Kingston and R-Truth):
This match will simply build to the inevitable face off between Randy Orton and Batista, which has been building for weeks. I predict that Batista will be down 3 to 1 but will come back only to be cut down by Randy Orton in an unclean victory. Team Orton wins with Randy Orton being the sole survivor.
Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team HBK (Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Cryme Tyme, and The Great Khali) vs Team JBL (JBL, Miz, John Morrison, Kane, and MVP):
This will not be the most technically sound match of the evening, but it may be the most fun. Khali will take out a few participants until Kane eliminates him. I predict that team HBK gets the win with Michaels and Mysterio as the sole survivors.
Casket Match: The Undertaker vs The Big Show:
Casket Matches are so rare in this era that it is just so much fun to actually see one. This will be a physical match that features little more than pure power, power, power. This will be a lot of fun and there is the potential of a returning Edge to interfere. I doubt that there will be interference in this one as The Undertaker wins the match and the feud.
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship: WWE Champion Triple H vs Vladimir Kozlov vs Jeff Hardy:
Prior to the Hardy story, I fully expected tonight to be Hardy's night. I thought that he would walk out of Boston with his first WWE championship. However the work storyline gives me the impression that we may see a returning Edge interfere in this match as he will claim responsibility for the Jeff Hardy Incident. Edge may even take Hardy's place in the match and walk out the champion...hey he has done it before. Assuming that Edge doesn't do that...I expect Triple H to retain and prolong his title reign for at least one more night.
World Heavyweight Championship: World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho vs John Cena:
This is being billed as the triumphant return of John Cena. It will make me sick to my stomach if Cena walks out the champion on his first night back. I better get the puke bucket ready because all indications are that we will have a new World Champion in John Cena. Barring Jericho getting disqualified, I fully expect Cena to walk out with the strap.
Those are my predictions for the 22nd annual Survivor Series. Whether I am right or wrong, whether there is a Montreal-esque screwjob or not, I fully expect Survivor Series to be three solid hours of wrestling entertainment. The action begins tonight in Boston and I will be ready in my futon for each and every moment of it.
