You know who I don't like? Sean Hannity

October 27th 2008 04:39
I was sitting in front of my television on Sunday October 26, sort of half asleep, when I flipped over to the Fox News Channel and saw their poster boy Sean Hannity on his weekend program "Hannity's America." Last week, his program was entirely about Democratic Senator Barack Obama's "radical associations." I already have written a post earlier this week stating what I think about the radical association game, so I will not go into it here. What really bothered me was what Sean Hannity's program had to say this weekend. The subject of this weekend's piece of swill known as "Hannity's America" consisted of Sean Hannity listing reasons why Barack Obama was not fit to be President. He is basically using a prime time hour of television as a pulpit to try and convince people how bad one man will be at his job all because of political ideology. It is at this moment that I can safely say that Sean Hannity and his form of "fair and balanced" jornalism has officially sunk to a new low.

I want to make something clear right now. I am not picking on Fox News as a whole. I know from watching his program that Bill O' Reilly would never do something like what Sean Hannity has done. Bill O' Reilly may lean traditional conservative, but he wouldn't spend an entire hour trying to convince someone how bad of a President Barack Obama would be. In fact, I don't know any journalist that would do that. What made Sean Hannity's program so frustrating is the fact that it was little more than a recap of the talking points that conservative pundits have been spewing over the last year about Barack Obama. Some of the reasons that Hannity gave for why Obama would be a terrible President include: Obama's plan of expanded government, the "spread the wealth" quote, the radical associations, and even criticism that Obama has been "playing the race card." In fact I heard Hannity end one of his points about Barack Obama with the phrase "can we really trust Barack Obama to be president." Why is someone who is apparently looking out for the best interests of the American people trying to scare them so much to vote with his corresponding ideology. Sean Hannity should be ashamed of himself. I doubt he is though because he is clearly a shameless human being.

One thing that I took away from Sean Hannity's propaganda piece is a new sense of media irony. One cannot help be reminded of Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," which was a documentary about why George W. Bush was not fit to be President and simply bad at his job. It's ironic because Sean Hannity is frequently critical of Moore's work despite the fact that what he did with this episode of "Hannity's America" is identical to Moore's film except from an opposing ideology. In fact, what Hannity is doing is actually worse than what Moore did with his documentary. Moore at least had 3 years of evidence to base his argument on. His film was really little more than propaganda, but because he had more information to reference as well as a clear media library to display job performance, his argument was quite convincing (though clearly not convincing enough...because Bush got re-elected). Hannity's argument is entirely a "what if" scenario. Barack Obama is not the President, so to say that his proposed policies would be damaging to the Country is unfair because they haven't even begun to be implemented...because he is not the President yet.

What is even more ironic is that Sean Hannity's message is that an Obama Presidency would ruin the country...despite the fact that we have just experienced perhaps the most damaging Presidency in the history of the United States in George W. Bush, a President that Hannity campaigned for vigorously. So clearly Hannity's assessment of what makes a good President shouldn't be an appropriate gauge for the rest of the nation...just don't tell Sean that.

What Sean Hannity has done with Barack Obama is simply the lowest form of character assassination. He is trying to discredit the man with little more that heresy and "what if" scenarios. What this also points out about Hannity is just how narrow minded he is. Hannity is a buttoned down conservative who, as evidenced by his radio program, is clearly devoted to Ronald Reagan and believes that he is the greatest President in history. He is also blind to the flaws of the United States...a different episode of "Hannity's America" was about, and I quote, how "America is the greatest, best country God has ever given man on the face of the Earth." Don't get me wrong, I love this country and I believe that we have the potential to be the greatest country on Earth, but to not acknowledge this nation's flaws is not just ignorant and silly...its dangerous. This is also a man who has a hard on for Sarah Palin (I can't prove that one...I'm just assuming) and engaged her in softball, talking point spewing interviews.

Sean Hannity is a dangerous ideologue...and worse than that he is a powerful ideologue. Millions of people buy his books, listen to him on the radio and watch his TV programs. His hatchet job on Barack Obama may have actually reached undecideds which is a sad thing. Not only is Sean Hannity dangerous, he is simply a bad person and a hypocrite. He criticized Obama's campaign advisor for what he called "cheap political tactics and playing the race card." Forgetting for a moment that he is quite chummy with Karl Rove on his televison program under Rove's guise as a "Fox News Analyst." Rove used the race card to, ironically enough, destroy John McCain's campaign in 2000. To criticize Obama's campaign for...campaigning is just foolish, especially when a friend of his is the political prince of darkness Karl Rove.

I sincerely hope that increasingly more, people will not take Sean Hannity at his word and view him as what he is...a dangerous, ignorant, hypocritical, and just downright mean ideologue who is more concerned with power and his own image than with looking out for the American people as he claims to. I will just end this post with a statement that you have probably figured out by now:

I don't care about ideology...I just don't like Sean Hannity.

P.S. I want people to vote for Obama...Just to piss Hannity off ; )
